INFOPROG | JULY 2017
Piknic #7 (July 2nd)
Piknic is beginning July in style at the Solotech stage on July 2nd when we welcome a true titan of the German electronic music scene. Roman Flügel will bring over 20 years of experience behind the decks to deliver a dance music clinic you won’t want to miss, ensuring techno lovers leave with stars in their eyes. Ahead of his performance, Montreal’s own Lost Heroes will deliver a deep and dubby vision of dance music at its most subterranean, setting the stage for a day of fun and depth.
At the Moog Audio stage, the 00:AM DJs will kick the day off with the grooviest of House jams, setting a lively and atmospheric mood. Then, England’s Shanti Celeste will keep the vibe going while kicking up the tempo a notch, combining 4X4 rhythms to Bristol’s signature bass. If you’re into big booming drums and energy for days, you’ll be in heaven.
Piknic #8 (July 9th)
Who’s ready for the latest and greatest in new rhythms? As we roll into the hottest days of summer, Piknic is bringing the bangers to help you sweat it out and have fun in the sun. It all starts with Tazz B2B Adam Solomon at the Solotech stage: when this dynamic duo teams up, you can expect the hi-hats and the drums to boom, making for a perfect start to the day. Then, they’ll pass the decks to England’s Cassy, a true ambassador for new grooves who’ll touch down in our fair city to deliver some of her custom jackin’ beats to light up the day’s grand finale.
That same day, over at the Moog Audio stage, we’ll start the day with another big collaborative set: Stram B2B 2GZ. These two Montreal selectors will be coming through with a mix of percussive grooves and atmospheric rollers, and we can’t wait to hear what they have in store. Then, to cap off the day, Agata Jasper, the new project from Montrealers Nico Sé & Kodok, will keep the vibe going with even more laid back grooves and soulful vocals. See you on the lawn!
Piknic #9 (July 16th)
Balearic vibes will be in the air for Piknic #9, as the Solotech stage welcomes two of Spain’s hottest DJs for a special 3 hour set of breezy tracks and big booming beats. We’re of course speaking of Chus + Ceballos, two House music veterans who’ll take control of the headlining spot to share their love of rolling rhythms with all of you grateful Piknickers. Ahead of this treat, Montreal’s Johnny Messina will get the party started, displaying his mastery of house’s many forms.
Meanwhile, Jack’s Kartel Records will take command of Moog Audio stage for an all-day takeover, delivering the jackin’ sounds their fans know and love and introducing everyone else to this Montreal label’s funk-filled vibe. The fun starts with Charles Bye’s laid-back grooves, before Chuck Fever presents his unique vision of soul. Finally, the day will end with the sounds of Spindeman, showcasing dance music’s deepest sounds.
Piknic #10 (July 23th)
We’ve got two massive all-day takeovers lined up for Piknic’s adoring fans for our 10th edition of the year, with two incredibly different sounds on display. At the Solotech stage, Toronto favorites My Favorite Robot will touch down for a special showcase, presenting a day of sophisticated and futuristic techno for lovers of deeper sounds, following their brilliant reception during their 2015 Piknic appearance. Then, headlining the stage under their banner, France’s Chloé will keep the vibe on a techno flex, finally coming through for her fans after being forced to cancel due to rain in 2016. We cannot wait to hear what she’s got in store for us!
Our second takeover takes place at the Moog Audio Stage when Husa Sounds mark 5 years of fun and music in our fair city. Newcomer Duchesse will start the day in force, delivering a series of dark, rolling grooves. Then, young dance music ambassador Jimmy Be will bring the day’s energy to a boil ahead of introducing his friend and collaborator, Montreal dance music institution. Adam will cap the day off with his cross-genre experiments, showing us all why his podcasts and live sets have become absolute must-hear events.
Piknic #11 (July 30th)
Every week at Piknic is special but even by our own sky high standards, this one’s worth noting. A techno and dance music legend, the one and only Motor City Drum Ensemble will be headlining the Solotech stage on July 30th in his first-ever Montreal performance! In case you don’t know, he is NOT known to tour North America so this will be your one and only opportunity to see one of the world’s absolute greatest living DJs live in the flesh on our shores! And who better to open up the day for this colossus of dance music than two of our city’s absolute finest in Lexis B2B Seb Fauteux. Simply put: you’ll want, nay, you NEED to be there.
But that’s not all! The Moog Audio stage will be celebrating 3 years of Bolting Bits. Numea Daze will launch us into a world of delirious grooves at the start of the day, before Ruby Jane takes control. Then, Jesse Futerman will press on with his unbeatable crate digging and rave grooves, before Bowly AKA OJBP takes us into the deepest recesses of House and Techno. What more could you ask for?
