BEST OF THE FINAL WEEKEND

Peter Ryaux-Larsen

Big last weekend, with tons of emotion and goodbyes to this wonderful 2016 season. Neither brisk autumn weather nor rain could put a damper on our excitement. A heavy coat, an umbrella, a poncho and we were all set. We officially said goodbye (for real) to our Calder, all together. It was emotional, but exciting changes are on the horizon.

Here’s the moments that truly captured our imagination:

1. SPECIAL “BYE-BYE CALDER” PIKNIC

We organized a party full of 100% local flavour, thanks to your online votes on Facebook. We hope that those among you who weren’t able to make it on Sunday for the grand finale took advantage of their Saturday to say goodbye to our dear Calder. Or those who wanted to double up did it with gusto. Thank you to the artists (Laura Scavo, Nymra & Sofisticated, Misstress Barbara, Gino G, Mike Larry) for making it all possible.

2. THE RETURN OF MISSTRESS BARBARA

We can’t talk about that Bye-bye Calder Piknic without mentioning her special retrospective set, specially designed for the occasion. Misstress brought her magic to one more day under the Calder. A set we won’t forget. In fact, here’s a CLIP.

3. MOONSHINE

Sunday, the Vidéotron Mobile stage belonged to the Moonshine collective who opened things up with Bambii. Another incredible set from this Toronto artist who we’re always glad to hear perform. Special shout out to her outfit that matched our stage colours perfectly. A brilliant success!

Next, Pierre Kwenders brought us so deeply into his musical universe that we even forgot it was raining. It’s like we were drifting through a tropical paradise. THERE WERE EVEN TRUMPETS, YO.

4. UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE PRES. DEPTH CHARGE

No doubt, this was one of our best shows in all of Piknic’s 14 year history. It’s like they threw a spell on the crowd and were controlling us telepathically, we just couldn’t help but dance with the crowd. #powerful

5. BRANKO

We’ve been missing Branko since his cancelled WEM Piknic appearance earlier this summer! And his set didn’t disappoint a single second: we were bouncing off the walls. Certainly the best way to cap off the season at the Vidéotron Mobile stage!

6. EATING A SPAGHETTI IN HIS BUCKET

This was a first, but we did see someone eating spaghetti out of his bucket. CLEVER! Never forget, a bucket is a multi-purpose tool!

7. THE LAST TUNE UNDER THE CALDER

This is the last song we played under The Calder! #nostalgia. Close your eyes and relive these last beautiful moments. Won’t you miss it?

Keep an eye out because next week we’ll be bringing you the BEST OF THE 2016 SEASON (to get you all worked up). Ciao!
