BEST OF PIKNIC #6

Peter Ryaux-Larsen

What a huge weekend for Piknic lovers! One Piknic last Thursday + another on Sunday. What more could you want?

Here’s our wrap up, point by point:

1. Our first Piknic at Jardins Gamelin

The air was electric last Thursday during our first Piknic at Jardins Gamelin. Needless to say, after last year’s amazing season, everyone was counting their sleeps ‘till it was time to dance in Montreal’s wonderful Quartier des spectacles. Welcome to the single greatest extended 5 à 7 in town. Nothing but fun! Many thanks to Éloïze and MightyKat, our queens behind the decks who turned this first night into a real fairy tale.

2. The return of Piknic on Sundays!

After two weekends off (due to inclement weather), we couldn’t wait to see you guys dance under the sun! We missed you so much, so it was amazing to see you all back on the dance floor and having fun. Summer’s back on! We even made a ‘lil photo album so you could look back on the day.

3. Petit Piknic in collaboration with Chromatic Junior

It wasn’t just dads that had fun last Sunday: THE KIDS WERE LIVING IT UP! Just east of the Calder, the Petit Piknic zone set up in collaboration with Chromatic Junior meant families could relax in a free-creation space, join a sewing workshop with Léa Mercante and even take part in an illustration workshop avec Ana Roy.

What a peaceful day: you couldn’t drag us away from this friendly and colourful space.

If you missed out, there are three other Petit Piknic events planned for your little ones this summer: July 24th, August 21st and September 18th! Watch this space for more details.

4. Piknic's new look

We were so proud to welcome you all to our redesigned site with all new decorations. Giant fruit, a revamped stage and even mini palm trees here and there: we went full tropical. It looked like an island paradise! #heatwave. Now for some kudos! Many thanks to Virginie Gosselin, the fabulous photographer in charge of these visuals. Also, a huge thanks to Design par Judith Portier team and to our incomparable production team, all of whom put in so much work to get these great results. BRAVISIMO!

5. Two 10th anniversaries

We celebrated not one but TWO 10th anniversaries last Sunday at Piknic. A double! And boy did we celebrate! At the Vidéotron Mobile stage, Roux Soundsystem lived it up for their big 10. We’re still getting asked “WHO WERE THOSE GUYS ” and ”WHAT WAS THAT TUNE” on social media. An indisputable sign of success!

Meanwhile, at the Solotech stage, Eresys were celebrating their own 10th anniversary. Our marquis guests (Kris Tin, Kasteniede, Yan Leigh, Mono-Poly and Hooll) simply made this Piknic an unforgettable one. CLAP CLAP!

6. Another star at Piknic

A long time Piknic fan (hi Tyna!) was quick to tweet that actor, director and comedian SIMON-OLIVIER FECTEAU was in the crowd last Sunday. #spotted and we’re not even kidding. He even shot her a smile, so it seems.

We couldn’t hide our excitement either.

Now we can’t wait for the Piknic-inspired sketch in the next “Bye bye”. We can dream!
