FOCUS PIKNIC | CREW LOVE (SLOW HANDS, ZEV ET JMAC)

This Sunday, Crew Love will be taking over the Moog Stage all day for our first Piknic of the year. Be there at 2pm and don't miss a thing. Here's a Focus Piknic with Slow Hands, Zev of Wolf+Lamb and JMAC, their tour manager.

What’s your role in the crew?

JMAC: I try my hardest to keep everyone out of trouble and organized.

What makes a party a Crew Love party?

Lots of smiles, hugs and kisses. What's unique about Crew Love events is how we program live acts (that play real instruments) throughout the night sandwiched in between DJ sets. We never really do set times (or at least post them) so the audience never knows who's performing when… it's a spontaneous jam session. Musically, on any given night you can hear several genres being played from r&b, funk, hip hop, afro beat, latin, disco, house and even techno (only if it's from Detroit).

Is there anything that’d never get played at a Crew Love party?

Pretty much any dubstep record.

What’s the difference between an outdoor Crew Love party and an indoor one?

The SUN! Our favorite parties are always the ones that start outside and go into the night. The weather sets the vibe of the music being played, the sound always progresses from midday to sunset, sunset to midnight.

What do you never forget for a picnic?

Stoneground mustard, spicy toscano salami and a nice baguette.

What’s the idea behind Crew Love?

Slow Hands: Playing good original music from a plethora of varied genres and moods, and making our loving audience feel equally loved in return. They are as much a part of the crew as we all are, for without them, we would not be.

Zev: All for one, one for all. Our crew is one sound so it's an easy way for fans to connect to the whole crew without having to track down each member.

If every member was a cartoon character, who would you be?

Z: Mickey Mouse for sure.

SH: I'd like to think I was Hobbes, as I usually fall in love with mean girls like Susie, and as the night carries on, I usually find myself walking around with a big dumb grin on my face. But I'm sure if you asked the others they would say Cletis Del Roy Spuckler, as I tend to lean more towards the redneck side than all the others (aside from Tanner ;)

What song do you wish you had written?

Z: Michael Jackson - Heal the world

SH: Pretty much anything Cameo Culture or Tanner Ross has written.

Do you approach outdoor performances differently than indoor ones?

Z: Definitely. We have sunshine tracks and club moods. That said each event has it's own vibe, and so it's always a little hard to pin it down before the show.

SH: I usually try to make people feel like they're outside when I play inside, so I suppose not. I do wear more sunblock however.

What’s the best song to play if you need to sneak away from the decks to pee?

Z: Depends how far the bathroom is.

SH: Ricardo Villalobos' discography would probably buy you a few days.

If you could have a picnic anywhere in the world, where would you go?

SH: Montreal, of course! (Pfieffer Beach runs a close second)

Z: If you mean a Piknic Electronik I've got lots of ideas. Call me.
