Montreal duo who, when added together, speak five languages, measure 3m 47cm, and weigh a total of 145 kg. They wear an average of Size 9 shoes, and both have brown hair and eyes. Their favourite pastimes are fishing, darts, and online dating. Honest and courteous, they concede to taking, from time to time, when the occasion arises, a drink of mineral water with friends. You must date them together.
Frivolous – aka Daniel Gardner – assembles a fusion of punk, rave, jazz, minimal, Eastern European folk music, classic house and swinging 60s soundtracks fuelled by a passionate love for found sounds and eccentric experimentation. Early DJ gigs in Vancouver fired up Frivolous’ love for electronic music. Soon after, Frivolous packed his bags headed for Canada’s techno capital, Montreal. Never quite satisfied with making standard floor-fillers, Frivolous developed a love of live performance, complete with extraordinary hand-made instruments. After a few years of living in Montreal, Frivolous made the move to Berlin, where he developed a fresh perspective on the prevailing minimal sound. This combination led him to join forces with the like-minds at Cadenza Records, which is set to release his third artist album in early 2011.
Smooth, deep, and brimming with funk, the leftfield house music of San Francisco’s Dave Aju is designed to get feet moving. But Aju also has personality to spare and a soulful, blunt voice, making him that rare producer whose distinctive sound is instantly recognizable the second he opens his mouth. The release of his debut album “Open Wide”, composed completely of mouth samples, was considered by many one of the most impressive full-lengths of 2008.
