THE BEST OF THE FIRST WEEKEND

Toshimi Jan Muniz

WOW. What a first weekend. Passion and incredible moments: you wanted ‘em you got ‘em! It felt like heaven (well, we figure that’s what heaven must feel like anyways).

For us, these were the absolute best moments from these two craaaazzzyyyy Piknics:

1. A RECORD CROWD FOR THE FIRST PIKNIC

You came in numbers (and in style) to this season’s first Piknic. And “in numbers” is underselling things. We broke Piknic’s ALL TIME attendance record. That’s something. Over 13 500 Piknic lovers came to celebrate the start of summer with a traditional bucket under the Calder. That’s impressive! Plus the weather was an absolute dream. BRAVO.

2. THE 3RD STAGE

Adding a 3rd stage was a complete success and we heard plenty of positive feedback. We honestly loved it all: the extra space, the music, the incredible crowd and most of all, the stage decoration. It felt like the very first Piknic all over again!

3. FRANCIS OAK AND FAMILY

After Project Pablo and Francis Oak’s back-to-back set, we caught Francis heading to the side of the stage to hug it out with his parents who made an exceptional trip to Piknic to see him play. We thought that was cute. #pride #familyfirst

4. KiNK'S SET, THAT IS ALL

We bet we’re not the only ones who thought this was THE highlight of our first event. What an artist that KiNK. Behind the decks, with his gear and alongside Rachel Row’s melodic voice towards the very end, he made us dance for over three fun-filled hours. Yes, we had to extend his set by an exceptional fifteen minutes. #toogood There was even a naughty boy who jumped the barricades to BEG for one last track. Well then.

5. MULTI CULTI AT THE VIDÉOTRON MOBILE STAGE

The vibe that the Multi Culti boys (Thomas Von Party et Peter Power) brought took us to another dimension. Furious dance beats, Chinese lanterns, shadow play, flowers and garlands; that was a trip! And you know what? WE LOVED IT.

6. THIS YOUNG LADY

Seen at Piknic, we found her fashion sense to be quite avant-guard. Futuristic even! We don’t know where she got her look, but that hat looked like a giant record. All we need now’s the turntable!

7. FOUR TET

Four Tet was hotly anticipated and did not disappoint. Look at this video and judge for yourselves. A big thanks to our phone that ran out of juice right at the peak. #byePhone

8. FOUR TET X RIHANNA

No, Rihanna sadly didn’t make it to Piknic (we warned you) but Four Tet did play “Kiss It Better”. Look back at that happy and spellbinding moment here:

9. STAGE PINEAPPLES

This just in: the blue pineapples in front of the Solotech stage are a hit. People asked the Piknic team and even the artists if they could take some home. Some even offered cash. There were 20$ and 30$ bids. That’s no joke. Did we somehow miss a black market for blue pineapples? To anyone who wants one: maybe you could contact our artistic director?

10. THE TOPSHOP TOPMAN PIKNICSWAG CONTEST'S FIRST FINALIST

Our first TOPSHOP TOPMAN PIKNICSWAG contest weekend featured plenty of fetching participants. Choosing our first finalist wasn’t easy. Ultimately however, @pascalesb won unanimously thanks to her and her friend’s stylish looks. Who knows? Maybe Pascale will win 500$ in Topshop Topman clothing as our grand prize winner? SUSPENSE. Watch this space. You too can join in the fun: just get your photo taken at our on-site studio, and upload it to Instagram with #PIKNICSWAG and #TSTMPIKNIC.
