At Piknic, we think green. In an effort to educate our public to the many ways and alternatives for protecting our environment, we called in the Echo’Scouade team to come inform us in all matters of sustainable development. Echo’Scouade has taken part in Piknic every summer since 2010, and they were also on hand for last year’s Igloofest. This weekend, the dynamic green team will be on hand for the first time this summer on September 2nd and 3rd!
A little background
Created in 2010 by the Echo-Logique Consortium and supported by their partners Boissons Gazeuses Environnement and Recyc-Quebec, Echo’Scouade is a dynamic promotion team for eco-citizenry that travels all over Quebec to bring awareness to eco-responsible development at major events. Their approach? Educate festivalgoers, promoters, and businesses about the hierarchical value of the three R’s (reduce, reuse, and recycle), in a fun and involved way.
They’ve been active at a number of events, including the Jazz Festival, Francofolies de Montreal, Just for Laughs, Formula 1 Grand Prix, Nascar, and even further afield at events such as Festival de musique du bout du monde in Gaspesie and the Festival de Musique Emergente in Abitibi-Temiscamingue. Everywhere it goes, Echo’Scouade brings its illustrations, games and sketches to present to the public.
Echo’Scouade Travels Big!
As part of its efforts to educate the public in interesting and innovative ways, Echo’Scouade is traveling to events with the Echo-Box, an old shipping container revamped as kiosk made of 85% recycled materials. Its lamps are plastic bottles, its floors are repurposed wood, and its counters and tables are old doors in need of new homes. Also: to move the container, they use a tow-truck that has three big recycling barrels, like those you find at spice-shops! When you use them to throw away your recyclables, you’re not only being a good eco-citizen, you’re entering to win any number of eco-responsible prizes! Piknicers who come check out the Echo’Scouade this weekend can win instant prizes (Frisbees etc) and participate in a contest, which has a grand prize of an eco-responsible trip (you choose the destination, in Quebec or international), with activities and guides. ($2000 value)
See you there!
