Program - labour day weekend presented by Sapporo in collaboration with STM

We hate to be the ones to tell you, but we have some bad news: summer’s almost over. Next Tuesday you have to vote, and after that you’ll have to put some pants on for the first time since last May. Your tan is going to begin fading away, and those sunglasses are going to make everything look a little too dark instead of just right.

The only thing left to do is enter our annual Labour Day Weekend recovery program. Do You know how people say, “Last night, a DJ saved my life”? Well, the truth is it actually takes a long weekend for a DJ’s magic cure to take hold. We know how devastating it is to lose a hot summer like this one, and that’s why we’ve devised the following three-day DJ recovery plan to get you through the hard times. Come with us, and we’ll take care of you.

DAY 1: Saturday, September 1st
If you’re like most students, you’re already broke after starting CEGEP last week or from getting ready to start university next week. That’s why this first day is extra-special for you. With a valid student ID, we’ll waive your Saturday Piknic tuition fee is you show up before 4pm!

The day gets underway at the MOOG stage at 2pm sharp with the adventurous sonic palette of the En Espagñol collective’s Esteban de Haro, whom you probably know from his regular sets at Salon Daomé’s Safari and Futuristicfunk nights. Hot up-and-coming local tagteam duo Prince Club takes over at 4pm, ready to jack up the house music. At 7pm, Piknic and Igloofest legend Thomas Schumacher returns once again to showcase why he’s still king of the big room after two decades in the game.

The GURU stage gets going at 3pm with Alfred Borden. Who proposes “inertial grooves, balanced beats, as well as a range of soothing sounds.” At 5pm, local DJ Matteo Grondini gets a little funkier with his mix of discofied house music.

DAY 2: Sunday, September 2nd
For Sunday, we’re bringing Quebec’s queen of the decks for our annual love-in with Montreal’s favourite daughter, Misstress Barbara! She’s our region’s Labour Day tradition, like going to the cabane à sucre in the spring or moving on July 1st!

On the MOOG stage, local duo Decibel db, the team behind house-music promoters Green Apple Presents, give us a sense of their taste-making abilities starting at 2pm. At 5pm, popular tagteamers Green & Lateez step out of regular haunts Salon Daomé and Stereo to squint in the sunlight. And then at 7pm, the Misstress herself takes over the Calder.

Over at the GURU stage, the day starts off deep and techy at 3pm with local DJ Euphonik. At 5pm, veteran spinner Mir demonstrates why he’s been an aficionado of mixing records for over 15 years.

DAY 3: Monday, September 3rd
For the final day of your recovery program, we bring in the big boys from San Francisco to help you cross the finish line. That’s right, we’re having a Dirtybird BBQ! That means we’ve got fell-good West Coast house music and, who knows, maybe even guest-chef DJ’s manning the burger grill!

The MOOG stage gets going at 2pm with hometown favourite Rilly Guilty. From 4pm on, we’re in for an all-day tagteam with Americans Justin Martin and Claude VonStroke for a five-hour session.

Over at the GURU stage, Omar Diouf gets us started at 3pm, and Moody Jones takes over at 5pm.
